Tibet 2014 - Lhasa

25-27 September Lhasa.

After lunch we leave Samye, following the road back to Tsetang, crossing the Yarlung Tsampo and driving back west towards Lhasa. A country house on a side road has fine balconies and a large moat but is locked and we can’t find the keyholder. A modern bridge crosses the river and we enter a tunnel, on the far side of which commences the sprawl of modern Lhasa. Our hotel is on the main road that runs through the centre of the city but is conveniently close to the Barkhor and we spend the remainder of the day, and the following days, wandering round the lanes and monasteries of the old parts of town.
